A 29-year-old male motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle motor collision in the vicinity of Kingsbridge Heights.
On Thursday, Aug. 5, at around 11.13 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a crash near the corner of West 229th Street and Bailey Avenue (in the vicinity of 2860 Bailey Avenue), in the 50th precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed the 29-year-old motorcyclist lying on the roadway with head and body trauma.
EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Further investigation by the NYPD highway district’s collision investigation squad determined that the motorcyclist had been riding a 2012 BMW motorcycle and traveling northbound on Bailey Avenue. As he continued northbound, he crossed over the double yellow lines into the south bound lanes in order to overtake another vehicle.
The motorcycle rider then struck the passenger side of a second vehicle (Vehicle #2), a 1996 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 31-year-old man, which was attempting to make a left-hand turn from the right lane of southbound Bailey Avenue onto eastbound West 229th Street.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, and was also transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital, via EMS, with complaint of pain. He was taken into custody on Aug. 6, at 2.32 a.m., on a DWAI charge. He has since been identified as Ytzkyel Robles, 31, of 6th Street in Newark, New Jersey.
The deceased has been identified as Alam Gonzalez-Mosquea, 29, of West Kingsbridge Road, The Bronx.
