Police said on Thursday that a 36-year-old man has been arrested on murder charges following the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old man in the Morris Heights section of The Bronx.
Police said that on Tuesday, July 2, at around 4.28 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been stabbed in front of 1809 Phelan Place, a few blocks south of the University Heights border.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 29-year-old male in front of the location who sustained a stab wound to the chest,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS transported the male to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.”
Police said there were no initial arrests and the investigation remained ongoing. The deceased was later identified as Ronald Gomez-Mesa of Morris Heights.
On Thursday, July 18, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said Clement Boateng, 36, of Phelan Place was arrested at 10 a.m. the same day in The Bronx.
They said he was charged with murder in the second degree, manslaughter in the first degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. He is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
