Morris Heights: Arrest Made in Murder of 47-Year-Old Miguel Cruz

A 17-year-old male teen has been arrested following the murder of a 47-year-old man in Morris Heights last month.

 

On Friday, Aug. 2, at around 6.31 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an assault in progress in front of 1600 Sedgwick Avenue. “Upon arrival, officers discovered a 47-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the head,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.”

 

The deceased was later identified as Miguel Cruz, Miguel of Bronx Park East, The Bronx. Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, an unnamed 17-year-old male was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 2.18 p.m. in The Bronx. He has been charged with second degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and second degree criminal possession of a weapon. The investigation remains ongoing.

 

The 17-year-old male is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
