A man from Concourse Village West has been arrested following the murder of Morris Heights man, Lamont Barkley, 55, on the north Mott Haven border in October 2022. A woman from Mt. Hope had already been arrested in October in connection to the incident.

On Oct. 10, 2022, police said that on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022 at around 8.25 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a man who had been stabbed inside an MTA BX19 Bus at the intersection of East 149th Street and Gerard Avenue on the north Mott Haven border, located in the 44th Precinct.

A police spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, officers observed a 55-year-old male with stab wounds to the torso. EMS responded to the location and transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced deceased.”

The spokesperson added, in part, “Further investigation revealed the male was involved in a dispute with a female and a male on the bus, when the unidentified individuals stabbed the victim. Both individuals then fled the location, on foot, prior to arrival of police.”

The deceased was later identified as Barkley, 55, of Davidson Avenue from the Morris Heights section of The Bronx.

On Oct. 10, 2022, police said Ebony Jackson, a 42-year-old woman from East Burnside Avenue in Mt. Hope, was arrested in connection with the incident. She was charged with murder and manslaughter.

On Jan. 16, police said a second person was arrested in connection with the stabbing, adding that Anthony Johnson, 56, of Concourse Village West in The Bronx was charged with murder.

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
