A 65-year-old male pedestrian has died followed a road accident on the Bronx River Parkway, police said.

A police spokesperson said that on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at around 5.29 a.m., officers from the 49th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on the northbound Bronx River Parkway at Allerton Road.

“A preliminary investigation determined that a 65-year-old male pedestrian attempted to cross the northbound Bronx River Parkway and was struck by a vehicle traveling in the northbound lane,” the spokesperson said. “The pedestrian was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene.”

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad.

For road collisions, the NYPD handles the criminal aspects of the investigation while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
