Make Music NY Concert in Williamsbridge Oval Park

Make Music NY is holding more than 1,000 free concerts throughout the five boroughs today, including one right here in Williamsbridge Oval Park, right across the street from the Norwood News near the north entrance to the park (see flyer above). A young singer/guitarist called THEO will open up for local group Fort Indy on what should be a lovely and lively afternoon.

There will also be concerts under major bridges, on row boats and inside Riker’s Island. Here’s a look at some of the Bronx shows happening today:

— Jacobi Hospital: Noon performance at Jacobi Hospital, 1400 Pelham Parkway South.

— Fordham: Vincent Ciccarone Playground, 188th St. between Hughes and Arthur avenues, several different acts, 5 to 10 p.m.

— Kingsbridge: 118 Eames Place, 1 to 2 p.m., “Brotherhood Experience.”

Morrisania Public Library: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., 610 E 169th St. Hip hop acts Lowfi and Nazdaq Brixx.

— Morris Park Public Library: 2:30 to 4 p.m. 985 Morris Park Ave., Drummer Richard Lyman.

Mott Haven: noon to 6 p.m. Various acts at three different locations. Click for details.

University Heights: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Aqueduct Walk Park, 2150 University Ave. MaG performing.

Belmont: “After Dark” performance, 9 to 11:45 p.m. at Antonio’s Trattoria, 2370 Belomont Ave.

Soundview: 4 to 6 p.m. Lafayette and Metcalf avenues. Performances by groups from Bronx Compass High School.

Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
