“Letter to the President” is a highly anticipated/controversial single featuring some premier Hip-Hop artists from “The Young Millennials,” aka The YM Squad, RNB Nah (Bronx) featuring Big Boos, Nene Ali (Bronx), Lil Legin, Destiny Rae and JSA.
On Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Community Board Athletic Leadership League (CBall) will host a virtual launch party and panel discussion to coincide with the music video release. CBall is a non-for-profit organization which, among other objectives, works to provide children from New York City with opportunities to participate in sports activities.
Joining the artists at the launch will be celebrities, including Hollywood actor Michael K. Williams, and State and City elected officials, State Sen. Luis Sepulveda, State State Sen. Gustavo Rivera, Assemblyman Victor Pichardo, Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, and Councilman Andy King, along-side teenagers, young adults, and many others.
The event will kick off with acknowledgments, purpose, and ground rules leading into the release of the single and video, “Letter to the President.” A panel discussion will follow covering three topics – voting, education, and violence. At the end of each discussion, each panelist will be called upon to share some words of understanding, as well as doable actions that can be taken by the event participants to address each of the three topics. Further programming, events, and conversations with public officials and influencers will also be scheduled in the coming weeks to follow-up on these topics.
A series of voter registration events are already scheduled and will be held at various locations throughout the Bronx on Sept. 10, 17 and 24, and on Oct. 1 and 8 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Locations will be announced prior to each event.
The Community Board Athletic Leadership League wrote, “As we continue to be at the forefront of providing youth, young adult, and family programming and events, our organization strongly feels that we have the answers to many of the problems in our communities. Without question, we have done the work for years and we are now reaching out to many of the necessary entities towards a collective effort of providing solutions, and this event is the beginning of one of them.”
