Latest Edition of the Norwood News Is Out!

Norwood News Vol. 29 No. 1
Greetings Readers!

The Norwood News is out with its first edition of 2016! We ring in the new year with 20 pages of community news you can use. We also feature the work from students of the Norwood News‘ Bronx Youth Heard program, a twelve-week course that teaches the fundamentals of journalism to Bronx high school students.

But first, we take you to Kingsbridge Heights where some behind-the-scenes dealings at the Kingsbridge Armory could finally jumpstart renovations for the highly anticipated Kingsbridge National Ice Center. Thanks to the state, the public can finally get a chance to see the long awaited project get off its feet. For now, we shed light on what spurred movement.

The Norwood News also covered the 52nd Precinct’s last murder of 2015, which happened in Norwood and to a neighbor highly admired. Read David Greene’s piece on what led to the man’s death, and the number of individuals sought. Mr. Greene also works on the lighter side of life, pegging a question on New Year’s resolutions in his Inquiring Photographer feature.

Next, is Bronx Youth Heard, a special publication the Norwood News‘ publishes bi-yearly, featuring the work of five talented Bronx residents. Read their work in the special web page we’ve produced.

We also have your regular features, Out & About and Neighborhood Notes, with plenty of helpful knowledge for your life.

Until then, please check out the latest edition of the Norwood News and send comments to David Cruz at dcruz@norwoodnews.org.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
