Dear Fellow Readers,
The latest edition of the Norwood News, covering the Bronx, is out and loaded with 20 pages of original news content covering the Bronx. In keeping with tradition we begin with page one!
This one focuses on the re-opening of Whalen Park, which unlike other park projects has opened in record time (see headline). Find out how what prompted this park to open so quickly. Also, you can hear from what parents think of the revamped park.
On page 3 you’ll find a great feel-good story of Bobby Gonzalez, a Norwood man who will be honored for his Taino roots. Congrats, Mr. Gonzalez! Other lighthearted stories include the unveiling of the “Norwood Column,” an art installation courtesy of the Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District and one that couldn’t have happened without community input.
Page 5 features continuing impact of the killing of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz with a law intended to mandate bodegas become safe havens for minors. Read Sophia Ebanks’ report on that.
A report by Jose A. Giralt features the bittersweet street renaming for fallen NYPD detective Miosotis Familia. Familia was shot to death last year. Read what Commissioner James O’Neill has to say about her legacy. Jose also has a story on the impact the Jerome Avenue Rezoning
As usual, we have the regular staples–Inquiring Photographer, Neighborhood Notes, Health Check, and Out & About–to help keep you an informed Bronxite!
Lastly, the Norwood News is proud to announce the hiring of a salesperson, Janet Geller, who will help grow our paper with her near 30 years experience covering the paper. Anyone interested in taking out an ad in our fine paper can email her at jgeller@norwoodnews.org.
