Dear Fellow Readers!
The latest edition of the Norwood News is out with plenty of Bronx news to spread around. We’ve packed 12 pages of original reporting by our talented rotation of reporters we hope you’ll find insightful. For now, let’s begin with page one and a long-awaited project.
That project falls in the heart of Norwood, Williamsbridge Oval Park. It’s there where a ceremonial groundbreaking of the highly anticipated skate park took place to the pride of many stakeholders involved. Read the city Parks Commissioner’s comments on this latest project. Read also why some will view this project as a real game changer for the neighborhood park. It’s worth a read.
Turning from lighter news fare to some hard news, we have an unfortunate story of a teenager whose life was cut short. Read David Greene’s report on the fatal stabbing of Damion C. Gilbert Jr. It’s the third homicide in Norwood, the most homicides in the neighborhood in recent memory.
There’s also a story on the city’s plan to expand 3-K in the Bronx following a positive response by parents. Don’t want to miss that. On page 8 you’ll find some stunning photos taken by Adi Talwar on the Amazing Bronx Flotilla event that saw canoers amble down the Bronx River. Adi takes you there. We also have a timely feature story by David Greene on the planting of American flags for fallen military veterans buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
We also have the regular staples–Inquiring Photographer, Neighborhood Notes, and Out & About–all meant to make you the smartest Bronxite. Health Check will be back in the next edition.
