Dear Fellow Readers,
The latest edition of the Norwood News, covering the Bronx, is out with plenty of community news you can use. We’ve published 16 pages worth of great information for the borough’s residents, so let’s get into it. We begin, of course, with page one and an interesting development regarding a homeless shelter plan for Norwood.
It seems the New York City Department of Homeless Services responded to pressure from the community by relocating a planned shelter to a different part of Norwood. But now concerns have surfaced over the new location of the shelter, which isn’t exactly near a school, but comes very close. We have reaction from all sides. The Commissioner of DHS also weighs in on the development, which he credits to community partnerships.
Next, we have a special report on 311 calls made in 2017 in Norwood. The results are very surprising. We’ve geeked out somewhat in the data department by running down all the figures. Read it and send some comments along. We’d love to hear them! Another data driven story we’ve cobbled up shows wait times for disability cases are the highest in the Bronx. Check out the piece by Mary Mellon and Niall Ridgley.
Some lighter stories include a photo spread on the first-ever Laundry Love happening at area laundromats. It was quite the money-saver for washers. There’s also a piece on the results of the so-called SOUPer Bowl (get it?).
We also have the usual features–Inquiring Photographer, Health Check, Neighborhood Notes, and Out & About. Share these stories with your friends. You’ll be the smartest person in the room!
So take a look at the latest edition of the Norwood News. Also, be sure to send comments my way at dcruz@norwoodnews.org. We enjoy hearing from you. Until next time!
