Hello Fellow Readers!

David Cruz, editor-in-chief of the Norwood News, here with another edition of the Norwood News, bringing you plenty of Bronx community news you can use! This week we bring you stories that have a direct impact on your life!

We first begin with a proposal to bring a homeless shelter by a nonprofit provider with a checkered past. The plan is still in the talks phase, though sources tell us the developer has been eyeing one Norwood location that’s across from an elementary/middle school. Read reaction from parents and community stakeholders.

Venturing inside the cover you will read a story on new rules that making the housing lottery less bias, an abandoned home that’s a downright eyesore to the Norwood community, and Montefiore Medical Center’s push for you to get your flu shot before it becomes a problem.

As usual, the regular staples of our community newspaper are here–Inquiring Photographer, Neighborhood Notes, and Out & About, all bringing some practical information your way. So read the Norwood News, or stop by and pick up your copy at any of the 300 locations in the northwest Bronx.

Til next time!

Editor-in-Chief, Norwood News

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
