The latest edition of the Norwood News is out with plenty of community news you can use to make you a more aware Bronx resident!
This week we have 16 pages packed with news happening in the Norwood area and surrounding communities. Our page one story takes us to the heart of the neighborhood and accusations of welfare fraud by a popular halal deli on East 204th Street. A raid rounded up members of the family-owned operation. David Greene spoke with the son of the owner. See what he has to say.
We then turn to an editorial found on page 2, this one focusing on state Senator Adriano Espaillat’s historic win in the Democratic primary for the 13th Congressional District. Find out why a congressional office in the Bronx is sorely needed.
Skipping ahead, pages 8 and 9 offer team coverage of the Kingsbridge Armory saga. Drama over the fate of the armory, slated to be an ice skating center, took place in the courtroom and the streets. Also, residents sound off on the Armory in a special Inquiring Photographer.
Plenty more stories await readers of the Norwood News. As usual, we urge anyone to reach out to me, David Cruz, at dcruz@norwoodnews.org, to share thoughts.
Best!

For about three weeks a NYPD Bronx Borough Mobile Command Center has been parked 24/7 at the intersection of East Gun Hill Road & Jerome Avenue with the lights flashing and power running. During this time, an unending string of illegal activities (e.g., barbecuing in prohibited areas, use of illegal fireworks, unauthorized amplification devices in excess of NYC limits, unauthorized group events, erecting tents, etc.) have been occurring in the Gun Hill Meadow of Van Cortlandt Park directly across the street. No police action of any kind appears to have been taken. How illegal does something have to be before the police take action?
