Latest Edition of the Norwood News is Out!

Norwood News Vol. 29 No. 12
Dear Fellow Readers,

The multi-award winning Norwood News, bringing you plenty of community news you can use is out with its latest edition. We have 20 packed pages full of news, with one page devoted to several nods the paper received within the last first.

As usual, we take you to page one, and a story about a notorious landlord who faces mounting pressure from Bronx tenants looking to improve their buildings’ quality of life. Tatyana Turner tells you all she knows about Ved Parkash, who owns some 40 residences in the Bronx. Definitely worth a read.

Inside the cover, an editorial on a process that’s flawed yet necessary: enrolling your child into high school. It’s arguably complicated, though we urge readers to consider taking it seriously. Your decision could change your child’s life forever.

We then take a news break to bring you an article on the newspaper picking up several awards at the 2016 Ippies Awards sponsored by the Center for Community & Ethnic Media at the CUNY School of Journalism. Find out which category we received top honors in, and learn about a left-field surprise given to the editor-in-chief of the community paper!

Of course, the publication’s main darlings are in–Inquiring Photographer, Neighborhood Notes, and Out & About to help plan your weekend or days off. All this and more in the latest edition of the Norwood News. Read all about it and share it with your friends. Also, share some thoughts with me, David Cruz, editor-in-chief of the newspaper, at dcruz@norwoodnews.org.

Til next time!

David Cruz

Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
