Latest Edition of the Norwood News Is Out!

Norwood News Vol. 29 No. 3 Front Page-page-001

Hello readers!

As usual, as promised, and right on time–the latest edition of the Norwood News is out with plenty of Bronx community news for you to share.

This week the paper heads to Bedford Park for a proposal by the New York Botanical Garden to convert its large space into a multi-used site, with the possibility of a hotel added to the fold. Only residents worry any new development could knock out the existing supermarket. Find out what one top official from NYBG has to say about that.

We move from one development to another in Kingsbridge–the Kingsbridge National Ice Center to be exact. Our latest editorial has to extend credit to several politicos who have had a hand in at least getting developers the much-needed financing for its mega development. We also ask the question: Why hasn’t the city given the lease to the ice developers? We thinks there’s a frosty relationship there. Worth a read.

Other stories include a godsend for a preacher, a local chain restaurant closing up, and the 52nd Precinct reeling in some “fishes” hanging around mailboxes. The Norwood News also have some of your bi-weekly favorites, Inquiring Photographer, and Out & About to help you plan a weekend.

Feedback is always appreciated. Send thoughts/comments to David Cruz, editor-in-chief of the Norwood News, at dcruz@norwoodnews.org.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
