Police said a 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in Kingsbridge in December 2022.

They said that on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at around 4.34 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an aided male at the intersection of Broadway and West 238th Street.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 62-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive with trauma about the body,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the aided male to Allen Pavilion Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”

Police said a preliminary investigation determined that the aided male was struck by a Dodge Ram traveling northbound on Broadway. They said the driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene. There were no initial arrests, and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad continued their investigation.

The deceased was later identified as Edwin Rivera, 62, of Manhattan.

On Nov. 14, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said Algenis Chavez, 43, of New Jersey was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 2.10 p.m. within the confines of the 50th Precinct. They said he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Chavez is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
