Editor’s Note: The following is an extended version of the story that appears in our latest print edition.

Kingsbridge Library has reopened following a temporary closure in late January which continued into February and which, according to the New York Public Library press office, was due to repairs to its HVAC unit, which library officials said was causing a lack of heat in the building, located at 291 West 231st Street in Kingsbridge.

On Feb. 1, Kingsbridge Library representatives said, “Unfortunately, the repairs have not been completed. We are looking at another week for the closure. Any reserves that are on our shelf or in transit will be extended for patrons. Note our dropbox is CLOSED. Please return to the nearest location or when we reopen. Reminder: NO more late fees. Thank you for your patience and support as we work to resolve this issue.”

Later on Feb. 12, Angelina Alicea, associate director for the West Bronx Neighborhood, provided an update, writing, “Dear Patron, Due to challenges with the heating system, The New York Public Library’s Kingsbridge branch was temporarily closed and will reopen on Wednesday, February 14. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank all of our patrons for their support and understanding while the branch was closed.”

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
