The NYPD said two people have been arrested following a robbery and assault which took place in April 2023 in Kingsbridge Heights. Police had previously appealed to the public for help identifying the people seen in the attached photos who department officials said were sought for questioning in connection with the incident.
Police said that on Tuesday, April 11, at around 8.30 p.m., in front of 235 West Kingsbridge Road, a 64-year-old man was sitting in a wheelchair when two people approached him and demanded money.
“The victim refused, and the individuals proceeded to punch the victim in the head and forcibly removed a cellphone from his pocket,” a police spokesperson said. “The individuals then fled the location to parts unknown. The victim sustained a minor injury to the back of his head and was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.”
The first individual sought was described as male, had a medium complexion, a medium build, black hair and facial hair. He was last seen wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with the words “Chinatown Market” on the front, ribbed blue jeans, and black sneakers.
The second individual sought was described as male, has a medium complexion and a slim build. He was last seen wearing eyeglasses, a black winter hat with a Nike logo, a dark-colored bubble jacket with a light-colored hood, light-colored pants, and black and white Nike sneakers. Police said the attached surveillance photos show both individuals at the incident location.
Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, on Sunday, June 4, police said two arrests were made in connection to the incident. Anthony Martinez, 20, of West Kingsbridge Road in Kingsbridge Heights was arrested on Tuesday, May 9, at 11.11 a.m. in the 50th Precinct and was charged with robbery. Anthony Myrie, 25, of Bailey Avenue also in Kingsbridge Heights was later arrested on Monday, May 22, at 10 a.m. in the 50th Precinct. He was also charged with robbery.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
