A man was assaulted aboard a D train as it approached Kingsbridge Road subway station on Monday night, March 17, according to the NYPD. They said the incident took place at around 9.25 p.m. when a 35-year-old man was aboard a northbound “D” train in the vicinity of Grand Concourse and East Kingsbridge Road. “An individual punched him in the face, causing bruising and pain after a verbal dispute,” they said. “The victim refused medical attention.”
Norwood News was inside the subway station and witnessed the aftermath of the incident where police were initially seen in pursuit of those involved, and the men were later seen being interviewed about the incident. Police also asked bystanders if they had witnessed the incident.
One of the men was seen holding his head in pain and had a bloodied face. Another who appeared to be possibly under the influence of alcohol appeared to be telling police that he and the victim were related, saying something like, “He’s my cousin.” However, the victim appeared to be denying this and was heard saying, “I don’t speak Spanish.”
Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, Rolando Lopez, 23, of Brooklyn was arrested. He was charged with assault in the third degree. He is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
