An 83-year-old man from Manhattan has died following a motor vehicle accident in Kingsbridge in late August, police said.
According to the NYPD, on Monday, Aug. 28, at around 3.05 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call regarding a vehicle collision at Broadway and West 230th Street.
“A preliminary investigation determined that a 1986 Oldsmobile sedan was traveling westbound on West 230 Street and attempted to go through the intersection at Broadway when it was struck by a 2018 Mercedes Benz SUV, which was traveling southbound on Broadway,” a police spokesperson said.
“The 83-year-old male operator of the Oldsmobile sustained head trauma [and] was transported by EMS to New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital in stable condition,” the spokesperson added.
Police said the 34-year-old male driver of the Mercedes Benz remained at the scene and was not injured. On Saturday, Nov. 18, police said that on Wednesday, Nov. 8, while admitted to New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital for the injuries sustained in the vehicle collision, the 83-year-old male driver of the Oldsmobile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
“There are no arrests, and the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is investigating,” the police spokesperson added. The deceased has since been identified as Ajay Shah of Greenwich Village in Manhattan.
The NYPD handles all criminal aspects of collision investigations, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
As reported, a 30-year-old man, and father to three young children, died following a single-vehicle accident on Jerome Avenue in Norwood in the early hours of Sunday, Nov. 12, and his wife remains in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital. The funeral details for Jonathan Ramos have since been announced.
