Two people were injured following a two-car collision at the intersection of Jerome Avenue and Van Cortlandt Avenue in Jerome Park on Tuesday, April 4, emergency services said.
An EMS representative said they received the call at 2.46 p.m. on the day of the collision. (At this time, most of the world was tuning in to watch former President Donald J. Trump being indicted in Lower Manhattan.)
They said one of the injured parties refused medical attention at the scene and the second was brought to St. Barnabas Hospital. The cause of the accident is under investigation, according to police.
The NYPD handles all criminal aspects of collision investigations, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.
Norwood News was at the scene of the incident on the day and observed that one of the impacted cars appeared to be going down Jerome Avenue and the other was going up the Avenue.
The impacted parties declined to talk about what happened. One man was seen inside a white car and only got out when a tow truck arrived.
The same man was seen later talking to ambulance workers, and was overheard telling them he had been coming down Jerome Avenue and was trying to make a left turn when the accident happened.
The incident caused a disruption to local traffic flow where school buses and other buses were also trying to get through the police (52nd Precinct) and emergency vehicles which had gradually arrived and gathered in the area.
The fire department also got there a short time later and were seen throwing something that looked like sand on the ground where there appeared to be a liquid spillage (potentially oil/gas).
A school is located around the corner from where the incident took place. No kids appeared to be in the vicinity at the time of the collision.
Two tow trucks arrived and took both cars away. One woman was observed limping and massaging her neck, as she talked to police.
Meanwhile, an e-cyclist was killed in a hit & run incident in Morris Park on April 5.
