This week, we asked readers their thoughts on the U.S. House Select Committee that is investigating the January 6th riots and the storming of the U.S. Capitol.
“I’ve been following it, and I notice the great partisanship that there is in both chambers, and it’s something that obviously needs the eyes of both parties because the interest of democracy is at stake. We notice the lack of interest that the GOP has demonstrated in these instances and it’s regrettable. It’s regrettable for our democracy, it is regrettable for the generation to come. It is regrettable for the country that our children will inherit.”

“We need justice, and the police officers were there to help the politicians and everyone that was in the Capitol so therefore, there should be justice, and something has to be done. This cannot ever happen again. Oh, we already know it was (former President) Trump and all the others with their lies. I just hope that they find out the truth because it’s a lie what’s going on… This is ridiculous. It’s so sad.”

“Yes, they should investigate that riot. It showed America what it’s all about. You just don’t riot and storm the House of Representatives and change the result of an election. Then, the president sits back, and all these officers got hurt, and that shows the other countries that anyone can do whatever they want in the United States of America. Trump was a Republican, so they are all backing him up and they’re all saying they had nothing to do with it. There was a riot, of course. You see the way they stormed, and people died, and officers got hurt. They should take the ex-president of ours and take him to the high court and Justice Sonya Sotomayor can make this final decision and knock him off.”
Luis Figueroa,

“I do think that someone should be held accountable for that day. America is a great country and I feel that they will get down to the bottom of it.”

“I happen to be a registered Republican for about 40 years. There are, maybe, a handful of Libertarians here. I’m torn over the January 6 situation. Nothing excuses the behavior of those involved. However, we wouldn’t have a nation if people didn’t invite riots and coups. Countries all over the world have this going on all the time, and we cheer for those we think are right and curse those who harm or deny others’ freedom. So, how does one decide what is right? I think the commission is a good idea. Let’s get to the truth.”
