This week, we asked readers their thoughts on the announcement on Jan. 18, by the New York State Attorney General’s Office that its ongoing investigation into the Trump Organization has preliminarily determined that the organization used fraudulent and misleading asset valuations to obtain economic benefits.

“He should go to jail. I think [former President Donald J.] Trump should be brought up on charges of fraud and tax evasion, or whatever claims the attorney general finds, because he’s not above the law. He’s just as guilty as anybody else who breaks the law. I’ve seen enough evidence [of] what happened at the Capitol. I don’t see how he got away with that. It was blatant disrespect of American democracy and as president, he was impeached twice and they let him go. That says a lot to the American people. It’s very disgusting.”

“It looks pretty bad. I mean, if he’s done something wrong, it needs to be investigated, and he should be in prison if he’s done something wrong. If not, then they should leave him alone. If they don’t want to answer questions, then that means they’re hiding something, so that means they need to investigate more, and send out more subpoenas. Yes, there will be justice.”

“I’ll be honest with you; I never liked Donald [J.] Trump from day one. Oh yes, Letitia James is a good lady, and I hope they hang him. Yes, he’s guilty. He caused too many problems. It’s the first time in history I ever see people storm the Capitol. I’ve been alive 63 years, and I never saw that. How did that happen? Everything bad that happened was because of him and he could not accept the fact that he lost. He had a fit when Joe Biden beat him.”

“I think it’s going to be hard to go after him because you have the Republican Party and for some reason, they fear this guy with a passion. I mean even through the insurrection, they refused to throw this guy under the bus, man. I mean he’s a disgrace to democracy. He’s a disgrace to everything America stands for. I mean I’ve never seen a president that held a country hostage. What is this – a dictatorship? Basically, the guy lost an election, and he says he’s not leaving, and he held the country hostage, and you have half of America that voted for him, so he’s still the second most-voted for president and I fear him and his family.”

“For how long did he do this? Many years? So, why now? Why didn’t they investigate sooner? I don’t support him, but the thing is, there’s too many questions. He did this for years, but only now they see it? It’s their fault. If he did something wrong, it’s their fault. They see it now….now, because he’s a politician? When he was just a businessman, nobody touched him. Nobody followed what he was doing or not doing. But now, he’s a politician; that’s what politics is all about.”

Editor’s Note: The OAG’s investigation into the Trump Organization is ongoing. Norwood News reached out to both the Trump Organization and their lawyers for comment. We did not receive an immediate response. The Wall Street Journal reports that former president Donald J. Trump has previously described a separate investigation by Manhattan D.A., Cy Vance, into the Trump Organization’s business dealings, a “witch hunt.”
