This week, we asked readers their thoughts on the Israel-Hamas war in Israel and Palestine.
“The violence Israel suffered on October 7th was horrible and the violence that Palestinians are suffering now is horrible. We need to find a way to peace.”
Margaret Groarke,
Jerome Park
“I don’t see the point of the war and the evil that’s going on. There is too much violence and many innocent people being killed. I believe they should have a sit down and discuss the root of the problem and how to fix it. A solution can be found when both parties benefit from each other in a positive way. Innocent children shouldn’t be killed; they are the future that can make the world better. Kids do what they see, not what they are told. I pray this will stop so our kids can make, and have, a better future.”
Catalyn Perez,
Highbridge
“I pray for peace every day. There are so many problems in The Bronx, but we are bombarded with these horrible images from the war. I just want it to end. There will be no winners.”
Steve Bobker,
Kingsbridge Heights
“With this latest, most horrific, and criminal genocide of the Palestinians of Gaza and the West Bank by the Israeli and U.S. governments shows is that the far-right, extremist, settler-colonial project of the Israeli-ruling classes must end, for the safety of the Palestinian people, the Israeli people, the people of the Middle East, and all people everywhere.”
Jennifer Scarlott,
Riverdale
“As a Jewish woman and New Yorker, I find myself engaged by what’s happening in Gaza. ‘Never again’ means never again… for all. In my opinion, Israel’s actions against a captive civilian population, half of whom are kids, are not only unjustified, but even more horrific because they mirror what was done in the Holocaust. U.S. funding and support of such violence is appalling as well. An immediate ceasefire is needed and [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s administration should face international trial.”
