This week, we asked readers for their thoughts on Gov. Kathy Hochul’s plans to curb misinformation on abortion, as announced on Sept. 13.
“You know if women want to have that, they have the right to do that. I don’t agree with certain things, but I can’t comment on that really, you know what I’m saying? They should have the right to do it, but babies need to be born. Republicans always cry they’re pro-life when it comes to abortion, but it never comes up when you’re talking about gun control. Everybody has an opinion, but when babies are being killed, I don’t like it.”
Byron Beasley,
Fordham Manor
“I feel like every woman has the right and I feel she, (Hochul) as a woman, understands how we feel, and I think that’s great. I also think it’s the woman’s right to have what she believes in, and if Gov. Hochul wants to do it, I’m all for it. Yes, abortion and women’s rights have always been under attack. There’s always double standards when it comes to us, women.”
Yessenia Sanchez,
Olinville
“I feel like we choose who gets into elected office and choose those who lead us and run our cities. Our elected officials need to do their part, and give us the right information for women so they can make the right decision on how they feel in regards to abortion. Social media took control, since social media came about, it has evolved throughout the years, and with the misinformation, that’s the new media. A lot of media outlets and reporters get some information from social media as well. People use social media in order to be “social activists,” but just because you post something, doesn’t make you aware of what’s going on.”
Ralphy Marcano,
Woodstock
“People have to choose what’s right for them; women should have the right. The misinformation is coming from the politicians. The regular people, they don’t care about abortion. Politicians have always lied. They are all partisan. Some are left, some are right and some in the center. I think getting the truth today is a little better than it was.”
Adam Diop,
Fordham Manor
“Everybody has to make their own decisions. Today, I’m kind of against it because I was pregnant a couple of times and I had two miscarriages. I now feel that after three months, it shouldn’t be done. I feel if God blesses you to have a child, you should have it. I don’t think anybody should have an abortion.”
