Inquiring Photographer: Readers’ Summer Plans

With the unofficial start of summer upon us, we asked readers their plans for the coming summer.

I expect to be working, but I will take one month off in July. I will go to the beach; I like to swim. I will spend time with the family, attend some cookouts. I love going to the beach in this weather, visit the different parks. It’s going to be great.

Actually, I’m going to visit family in Sicily, Italy, and I haven’t been there in 10 years. I’m going to see my grandmother and grandfather, my aunts and my uncles. This is my first time going to Italy. I just moved to the Bronx; I’m originally from Brooklyn. I will check out the Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo and Orchard Beach because I’ve never been there. I will also shop on Fordham and East 149th Street because I heard there’s good deals there.

I’m planning to go to the beach. I went to Orchard Beach on Memorial Day. I’ll go again tomorrow. I’m planning on [getting] my kids to participate in an employment program so they will get to learn the Bronx a little better. We’ll do some barbecuing in the backyard. I’m actually starting a master’s program at Hunter College. We’ll go to the Bronx Zoo and the Botanical Garden. We actually plan on doing a lot of stuff in the Bronx this summer.

I plan on going up to the Catskills with my dad and my kids for a week; it’s a tradition. Yes, walking in the woods, having barbecues. The ‘Irish Alps’ they used to call it, back in the day. Just hang out and have little cookouts in the backyard. Got to work too.

This summer I will be attending the Brightpoint Health project and the BronxWorks project. These are substance abuse programs that help you to stop using drugs. They will help me in various ways. I will be going to Dorney Park upon my graduation. Also going to see the Mets play and chill out in the Bronx and have a great time.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
