With both the New York Mets and the New York Yankees advancing to the playoffs, this week, we asked readers their opinions on the possibility of a Subway Series.

“It would be awesome! That would be great! I think it’s going to happen, and the Yankees will win, because it’s only happened twice in about 75 years; it’s rare. It would really be a boom for the economy.”

I would love a Subway Series! The last one was 2000, right? We put a lot of trust in (Jacob) DeGrom and (Max) Scherzer and we have put some trust in some ace pitchers that didn’t make it for us. A Subway Series will bring in a lot of money, prestige, and the world would be watching. I love it! It will give New York a lot of exposure. I’m hoping the Mets will win. That would be great, but first they must overcome the Dodgers.”

“I would love to see a Subway Series! The Yankees will beat the Mets down, because my brother is a Mets fan. We need that boost; we need something to come up with, some kind of strategy so we can win again. It would generate so much money. It would wake up the city again. The city is kind of dead now. My prediction is a Yankees sweep of the Mets.”

“I don’t know what the odds are for a Subway Series, but I’m hoping for a Subway Series! We haven’t had one since 2000. We need to have quality players on the team to keep the ball rolling. I’m a die-hard Yankee fan and would love to see a Subway Series! It would be a great thing for New York.”

“I haven’t been to a game since I went to Game 6 of the ‘81 World Series between the Yankees and the Dodgers. A Subway Series would be a big boom for the city and for transportation. I’d like the Yankees to win; my family, we have always been Yankee fans.”

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
