Inquiring Photographer

This week we asked readers their thoughts on new NYPD guidelines that would investigate all claims of use of force and officers who fail to step in during moments of alleged misconduct.

Inq_Photo-1I think it would be very helpful. I think that having another officer with them when something arises would be helpful in court. It would also help solve a lot of police brutality because there’ll be somebody watching, and somebody who will hopefully tell the truth when the time comes.

Inq_Photo-2If one officer is doing something wrong to a suspect, his partner should actually report that to the chief and the commissioner and actually both should be fired or suspended if they don’t report it. That would help keep officers in line because no one is above the law.

Inq_Photo-3Yes, I think it’s a good thing as long as they go through with it. Police always silence themselves. They always have backup and lawyers, money and everything. They don’t want their cops to look bad. This will change the game around, it will make it more even and balanced.

Inq_Photo-4As a community, I feel like it’s good that it would stop police brutality. As far as police officers go, I think it would create a distrust between partners and that’s never really good if you think about it, because you need your partner to have your back on the job, so if there’s any distrust at all you’re not going to be able to do the job as efficiently.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
