For about another week, Bronxites have another location where they can go to apply IDNYC, an ID card offering free and discounted services from the city.

The pop-up site at North Central Bronx Hospital (NCBH) will be accepting appointments and walk-ins based on availability for IDNYC applications through Nov. 24.

At a news conference on Nov. 17 at NCBH, Councilman Andrew Cohen and members from the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs and NCBH, a city hospital, were thrilled to be able to offer the pop-up service at the heart of Norwood. Cohen noted some have had to endure two to three month waiting periods to apply for the card.

IDNYC offers New Yorkers a broad range of benefits including access to libraries, banks and credit unions, entertainment discounts not limited to Broadway shows, movie tickets, and theme parks, prescription drug discounts, among more.

“In my district, the benefit is dynamic because part of the benefits of getting this ID are memberships at cultural institutions and we’re fortunate that we also have a lot of cultural institutions like the Botanical Garden, the Bronx Zoo, Wave Hill,” said Cohen.

The ID, free until the end of the year, is advantageous to undocumented, foreign-born residents who have no access to state ID cards.

“There’s just so many things that you need basic ID for and having this first one piece of ID is a gateway to getting other pieces of ID, so that’s why we think it’s important,” said Cohen.

The pop up site at NCBH has already signed up about 400 New Yorkers since its start Nov. 4, while the city overall has seen about 600,000 applications.

“And we’re really grateful to NCB for making it available as close to home as possible,” said Cohen.
