For the first time since 2019, before a once-in-a-century pandemic put a stop to most large gatherings, several hundred children and their parents gathered at the Williamsbridge Oval in Norwood for the Parks department’s 5th Annual Spring Easter Egg Hunt.
Held opposite the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center, located at 3225 Reservoir Oval East, on Saturday, April 16, youngsters enjoyed an egg hunt as well as games, arts and crafts and face-painting.
A dozen or more businesses and organizations were on hand on the day, passing out free information. DJ Rob, provided by Montefiore Hospital, was at the turntables streaming music, and a free magic show was also held, sponsored by State Sen. Jamaal Bailey (S.D. 36)
Parks’ department officials said it was the largest event held at the Oval since the pandemic began.
Sarah Bishow, manager of the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center, said of the event, “We are thrilled to have welcomed the community back for our Annual Spring Easter Egg Hunt, which was on pause for the past two years due to COVID.”
She added, “There was a great turnout and people of all ages and backgrounds came out to have a fun-filled, memory-making day. It brings us joy to provide free events for the community to enjoy, and there is much more on the way!”
The event was organized collectively by NYC Parks’ Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center and Glad Tidings Church, and the sponsors were Build On, Bronx Health Medicine who provided volunteers, State Sen. Jamaal Bailey’s office, which sponsored the magician, Montefiore Hospital which provided the music with DJ Rob, Bronx Community Board 7 which provided the face-painting, the Jerome Gun Hill Business Improvement District (BID) which provided carnival prizes, Strive Higher, Book Fairies and Material for the Arts, which provided free books, and Guerinos Against Graffitti* which provided additional giveaways.
