As Norwood digs out from another mega snow storm, the Norwood News is out with another fine edition featuring pressing community stories. If you’ve missed it the first time out, take a look at our re-designed front cover, maintaining the familiarity of the paper, though with several add-ons. As usual, we love feedback so please don’t hesitate to email our Editor-in-Chief, David Cruz, at dcruz@norwoodnews.org.
Now on to the fun stuff: This latest edition has published some great articles from our latest graduates from Bronx Youth Heard, the after school program that trains young writers to be journalists. Major props go out to reporters Christa Cersosimo, Quedus Babalola, Rosannie Calderon, Samiyah Defreitas, Jasmin Garcia, Natalie Mendez and Marco Paulino for crafting well thought out pieces that explore teen issues. Many thanks to Katina Paron and Kate Pastor for whipping these young journalists into shape during the 12-week program. You guys rock! Remember readers: applications for Bronx Youth Heard are due by Wednesday, January 29th.
Next, we take a look at what’s been happening along Webster Avenue since rezoning has taken shape along the corridor. With the city mandating any new housing projects come with the assurance of first-floor commercial space, Community Board 7 is holding the line on ensuring developers adhere to the new rules. Freelance reporter Hayley Camacho delves into that. Then we have another piece focusing on who the signatories are in the Kingsbridge Armory’s Community Benefits Agreement. We’re hoping you take a look at this read, as it will be exclusively shown on our newspaper, so be sure to pick it up or just take a look at the PDF format here.
That wraps up a lowdown for this coming edition. Feedback is always appreciated so be sure to email David Cruz to give your take on pressing stories.
