Holiday Lightings 

The public is invited to the following holiday lighting events:

Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. – At Mosholu Parkway and Bainbridge Avenue, presented by Community Board 7. Activities include annual tree lighting, CB7 choir and Mount St. Ursula and PS/MS 20 choirs. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (718) 933-5650.

Dec. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. – At Williamsbridge Square, 3500 White Plains Road (corner of Gun Hill Road), presented by Mosholu Preservation Corporation and Councilmember Andy King. Dec. 12 at 4:15 p.m. – Community Chanukah Candle lighting at MMCC, 3450 DeKalb Ave. Free and open to the public. For more information, call (718) 882-4000.

Dec. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. – At Jerome Avenue and Mosholu Parkway North, presented by Jerome-Gun Hill BID. Activities include annual tree lighting, free warm beverages, free presents for kids while supplies last, picture with Santa, music with DJ and coupons for sales in the BID. Dec. 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. – Holiday processions at St. Philip Neri Church, 3025 Grand Concourse, sponsored by the 52nd Precinct and 52nd Precinct Community Council. For more information, call (718) 2290-5824.

Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Holiday Party at Giant Laundry, 2861 Webster Ave. Games, prizes, pizza, snacks and a special visit from Santa.

Onstage
The Bronx Library Center, 310 E. Kingsbridge Rd., presents A Musical Tribute to Sam Cooke, performed by singer Cody Childs and the Ladies of Soul, Dec. 9; and concert, featuring chamber music performed by Celia Cruz H.S. orchestra, Dec. 16; both at 2:30 p.m. For more information, call (718) 579-4244/46/57 or visit www.nypl.org.

Events
The Williamsbridge Oval offers a variety of free classes for youth ages 6 to 12, this fall, after school and Saturdays, including drama, sports, dance, art and more. Also offered is Literacy Day, Dec. 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Bring your favorite book and enjoy stories and snacks; for ages to 13 years. Gracie Mansion, 88th Street and East End Avenue, will be open to the public for its annual Holiday Open House, Dec. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. Guests will tour the mansion, then visit the outdoor tent to view holiday arts and crafts. Wave Hill, a Bronx oasis at 675 W. 252nd St. in Riverdale, offers Family Art Projects: Put Wave Hill in the Palm of Your Hand, to trace your hand to make a palm-shaped amulet, then decorate it, Dec. 9 and 10; and Wintery Birdy Marionettes, to make puppets, Dec. 16 and 17, both in the WH House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grounds admission is free until noon Saturdays and Tuesdays all year. Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
