Gun Hill Houses: Motorcyclist Dies at Scene of Motor Vehicle Collision

On Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020 at approximately 6.52 a.m., police responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of White Plains Road and Bartholdi Street, in the confines of the 47th precinct in the Gun Hill Houses section of the Bronx.

Upon arrival, police discovered an unconscious and unresponsive 29-year-old man lying on the roadway. EMS arrived and pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the occupants of a 1997 Black Nissan Maxima and a 2019 Honda motorcycle were both traveling northbound on White Plains Road when the driver of the Nissan attempted to make a U-turn onto southbound White Plains Road.

 

The motorcycle collided with the Nissan on the driver’s side of the car, ejecting the motorcyclist from their vehicle. The Nissan driver continued to drive forward and subsequently crashed into an unoccupied vehicle.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Jacobi Hospital in a critical condition. There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

A Norwood News photographer at the scene of the collision did not see any skid marks on the street in the area where it took place.

 

The identity of the deceased is pending family notification.
