Dollars
Money is tight during the COVID-19 pandemic as thousands of New Yorkers are laid off. The City launched a free virtual service tool on Apr. 15, 2020 to help job-seekers find new employment.

Bronx (Fordham Rd), West Farms, and Hunts Point Workforce Career Centers are currently closed, but have launched virtual services to help job seekers during this time. Workforce1 helps New Yorkers prepare for and connect to jobs across New York City’s five boroughs in every sector of the economy.

Through their Virtual Workforce1 Career Center system, the career centers can connect candidates via web or phone to one-on-one help from professionals, including help with the following:

  • Job Opportunities
  • Individual Career Advice
  • Resume & Interview Preparation

All of the services are provided at no cost and do not require in-person visits. Candidates can click on the following link and someone from the Bronx Workforce1 team will follow up with you:  Bronx Workforce1 Career Center Virtual Connection.

For services over the phone, candidates should call 718-960-2458 and select Option 2.

Workforce1 is also currently offering a free virtual interview workshop for candidates who may need to brush up on their interview skills. All candidates must have access to a computer or a phone to participate in the workshop, which will identify what employers are looking for during an interview, and allow participants to practice responses to commonly-asked interview questions.

The workshop is for job seekers who have a resume, and who demonstrate inexperience in going to interviews, or who have been repeatedly unsuccessful during recent interviews. Sign up here.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
