The 19th Annual Fordham Road Fair returned to Fordham Manor on Saturday, Oct. 12, along a four-block stretch on East Fordham Road between the Grand Concourse and Elm Place, where streets were closed off to street traffic.
Organized by the Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID), the fair, held from noon to 6 p.m., was a successful event with children seen playing with Lego, in the bouncy house, and on the roller-skating rink. There was also food, fun, carnival games, music, art exhibitions, inflatable balloon rides, t-shirt and sneaker giveaways, stilt walkers and performers.
One couple told Norwood News it felt like a lovely summer day, nice and warm, while another man named Robert said he didn’t like that the fair was held on a Saturday and felt it would have worked better on a Sunday.
One dad named Carlos said while his wife went shopping, he stayed with his daughters and watched them play.
The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 2005. Its primary mission is to foster and promote the growth and vitality of the Fordham Road commercial corridor.
It oversees the maintenance and sanitation of the district, provides business assistance and development services to its members, and facilitates the construction of public spaces and streetscape to promote an active and cohesive community.
It also works on district improvements for existing and new businesses and promotes Fordham Road’s cultural assets and the importance of engaging with its diverse community.
The Fordham Road BID is looking to provide quality, accurate, and relevant news and information to serve and benefit the community and commercial district. If you have any ideas, suggestions, recommendations or grievances, contact them here and subscribe here.
With the fair drawing over 10,000 attendees last year, organizers said, “It’s also a great way for local businesses to engage with the community and attract new customers.”
