The Fordham Road Business Improvement District (BID) continues to focus on the beautification of public spaces with the start of the Fordham Plaza renovation and the recently completed Bryan Park (intersecting Fordham and Kingsbridge roads). We are also ramping up our sanitation efforts to ensure that Fordham Road is clean for everyone to enjoy! This summer, we are hosting a record number of seasonal outdoor events including our film festival, sidewalk sales, and Fordham Fever Fridays. Our goal is to engage the Fordham Road community through these events.

Fordham Fever Fridays are in full swing! On Aug. 7, at Muller Park & Plaza (located at Fordham Road and Creston Avenue), is the first-ever beach party event with dunk tanks, giveaways, and beach-themed activities for all to enjoy. For our Sept. 4 and Oct. 2 Fever Fridays, our activities will be food truck and fantasy sports draft-themed respectively. Make sure to check our mobile app for more specific updates. In addition, our sidewalk sale campaign will continue through Aug. 27-29, Sept. 17 and 19, Oct. 22 and 24 and Nov. 28. Shop Fordham Road on these dates between noon to 7:00 p.m., when merchants will be displaying their specialty sales of merchandise outside their storefronts.

Our outdoor film festival is back and will feature three spectacular movies: Ghostbusters, our two-night special feature, on Aug. 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. All the movie events will take place at the newly renovated Bryan Park, an urban green-space for all to enjoy. We will also be having fun activities prior to the start of our movies for the whole family. Mark your calendars and join us for a night under the stars.

We are improving Fordham Road, non-stop, for our shoppers, merchants, and most importantly our community. For more information about these events and more upcoming events, visit our newly redesigned website at www.fordhamroadbid.org and check us out on Facebook (www.facebook.com/fordhamroadnyc) and Twitter (@fordhamroad_NYC). You can also download our brand new Fordham Road app with updates about what’s going on at Fordham. We hope to see everyone enjoying our exciting Fordham Road events and supporting our local Bronx businesses!

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students. As you navigate this website, please let us know if you discover any glitches or if you have any suggestions. We’d love to hear from you. You can send e-mails to norwoodnews@norwoodnews.org or call us anytime (718) 324-4998.
