The NYPD confirmed an accident involving three vehicles occurred at Fordham Road and Webster Avenue on the border of Fordham Manor and Fordham Heights, last weekend. Police said the three impacted vehicles included a parked 2006 Acura, a 2021 Toyota, and a second 2006 Acura.
According to eye witness reports, the accident happened on Saturday, May 15, at around 9.30 a.m. This was later confirmed by police.
Eye-witnesses said a white SUV was traveling along a bus lane, and was about to park when another blue/gray SUV arrived on the scene and the two vehicles collided, causing the white SUV to hit the parked, gray Acura.
The wheel of the white SUV appeared to pop out, upon impact, according to eye-witnesses. It was later seen lying on the road near to where the accident occurred.
The driver of the blue/grey SUV told onlookers at the scene that he was about to park when the white SUV appeared and seemed to be driving on the wrong side of the road, in the bus lane.
However, the driver of the white SUV was heard saying he was there because he was also about to park.
Norwood News overheard eye witnesses saying that the driver of the blue/gray SUV only put on his right indicator after the collision occurred, once the cars were stationary.
EMS and police arrived at the scene.
One female eyewitness said she saw the white SUV getting hit, and that the people inside the vehicle “jumped up and down until the car stopped.”
She added that it was lucky nobody had been crossing the street at the time the accident happened, and that nobody got hurt.
One man at the scene was seen holding his arm after the incident. However, the police reported that there were no injuries.
A parking ticket was seen on the road in the vicinity of the parked Acura, indicating that the driver of the car had not topped up the meter by the required time. The ticket described the impacted vehicle as a gray Acura but did not include the vehicle registration.
Norwood News later followed up with the NYPD to inquire as to the cause of the accident. We did not receive an immediate response.
