The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance identifying the man seen in the attached photos and video who is wanted for questioning in connection with a grand larceny crime that occurred, in transit, in the 52nd precinct / Transit District 11.
It was reported to the police that on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at around 2.35 p.m., at the mezzanine level of the Fordham Road subway station (line 4) located at East Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue, a 29-year-old man was attempting to purchase a Metrocard but the vending machines were not working. An unidentified man offered to sell the victim a swipe of his card for $2.
The victim agreed, and as he was being swiped through the turnstiles, the suspect stole the victim’s wallet, which contained a credit card and approximately $280, from the victim’s pants pocket. The suspect then fled to parts unknown. There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
The suspect is described as an adult male in his mid 20s, light-skinned, is 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 180 pounds, has a medium-build, black hair, facial hair and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweater, black pants and black sneakers.
There have been a number of assaults/thefts in the Northwest Bronx in recent months inside subway stations. Norwood News reported on Jan. 8, that a 74-year-old man was punched in the face as he was passing through the turnstile at Kingsbridge Road subway station, and on Nov. 5, 2020, we reported on an attempted robbery at Woodlawn subway station.
On Oct. 28, we reported on a robbery at 205th Street subway station in Norwood. On Thursday, Jan. 7, we observed police presence at that same station. When asked why the officers were there, we were informed that they were checking that people had a valid Metrocard.
