Police said they have arrested a man for the rape and attempted murder of a woman inside an apartment building in Fordham Manner.
NYPD officials said on Friday, March 11, at approximately 3.30 p.m., it was reported to them that inside a residential building in the vicinity of Davidson Avenue and West 190th Street, a man placed a 27-year-old woman in a chokehold until she lost consciousness, and then raped her.
They said he then fled the scene on foot, southbound, on Davidson Avenue. The victim suffered lacerations to her nose and mouth as a result of the incident and was transported to an area hospital by EMS.
The assailant was described as male, dark-skinned, was wearing a multi-colored du-rag, a black, hooded sweater, black jeans, black and white sneakers, and was seen carrying a red and black backpack.
The NYPD had asked for the public’s help in identifying the man seen in the attached video and photograph who was sought in connection to the incident. The images and video were obtained from a nearby bodega prior to the incident taking place.
On March 23, pursuant to an active investigation, the NYPD confirmed that Jason Dickerson, 34, of Bailey Avenue in the general vicinity of Kingsbridge Heights, was arrested on March 22, at 3.43 p.m. He was charged with rape and attempted murder.
According to NYPD data, the number of year-to-date rapes in the 52nd precinct, which is where the incident occurred, remains the same as during the same period in 2021 (7 rapes in each case), as of March 20.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
