Fordham Heights: Attempted Armed Robbery on #4 Line at W 183rd St. Subway Station

The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the man seen in the attached photographs and video who is sought for questioning in connection with an attempted robbery that occurred in Fordham Heights.

It was reported to police that on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at approximately 6.30 p.m., inside the Jerome Avenue and West 183rd Street subway station, on the southbound platform for the number 4 line, the suspect approached a 19-year-old male victim, displayed a knife and demanded his cellphone. The victim ran away from the assailant down a flight of stairs, sustaining a minor ankle injury as he did so. He later refused medical attention at the scene.

Meanwhile, the suspect fled without any property.

Norwood News recently reported on a successful robbery that took place on Jan. 24, aboard the same number 4 subway line, as it was approaching the same 183rd Street and Jerome Avenue station.

On that occasion, a 26-year-old woman told police while aboard the northbound number 4 train, an unidentified man threatened her with an unknown sharp object in the stomach area, demanding her property.

The man removed the victim’s wallet, which contained various credit cards as well as her identification. He fled the train at the East 183rd Street and Jerome Avenue station.

There is no suggestion that the two incidents are related.

Surveillance images and video depicting the man in the Feb. 8th incident is attached.
