Elite Eight in Bronx Borough Playoffs Face-Off Today

The Final Four in the Bronx Borough playoffs will be determined today, as eight of the borough’s best boy’s basketball teams face off in a series of games that should not disappoint. Here’s a brief rundown of the match-ups:

Wings Academy “Wings” vs. Taft “Golden Eagles”

Based on how they have performed throughout the season, it is clear the team from the Wings Academy is eager to redeem itself after losing to JFK in the championship last season.  With most of their players putting up impressive stats and suffering only one loss, the Wings are a major team to watch in these finals.  However, Taft’s Golden Eagles will no doubt be some fierce competition for the Wings, with players like Richard Lue and Salisu Nuhu showing some impressive numbers throughout the season.  This game is being played at the Mott Haven V Gym, 1551 East 172nd St. at 6 p.m.

Evander Childs “Tigers” vs. Gompers “Panthers”

The Evander Childs Tigers have played a great season, and many of their players (Michael Bernard, Jonathon Cummings, among others) have demonstrated tremendous talent.  Players from Gompers, such as Naquan Moore and Yohan Almonte, have also displayed their skills admirably, which makes this game a must-see.  Gompers will be hosting.

Fannie Lou Hamer “Panthers” vs. Monroe “Eagles”

With an undefeated record and a season that has included some major blowouts, the Hamer Panthers are probably the most intimidating team in the finals.  Players like Corey Morgan Jr. and Michael Castillo have certainly proven themselves are great players.  Monroe has not been blessed with a similar record this past season, but having the Eagles pull out an upset is not entirely impossible.  Hamer will be hosting.

Morris “Bulldogs” vs. JFK “Knights”

The Morris Bulldogs have had a pretty solid season, and based on the stats they have put, it’s clear it has definitely been a team effort to get to the finals.  However, based on JFK’s record this past season, the Knights should be fairly evenly matched with the Bulldogs.  And with powerhouse junior Muhammed Ahmed leading them into battle against Morris, it’s obvious that this will be fun to see how this one plays out.  JFK will be hosting.

All playoff games will be played tomorrow, Tuesday Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. (except the Wings-Taft game, which is at 6 p.m.) at their respective locations.

The 2013-2013 Girls Basketball Seeding Recommendation meeting was held yesterday. Scheduling for the girls’ playoffs will be announced later this week.
