Earlier today at JHS 80, which is poll site number X0037, located on 149 East Mosholu Parkway, there were about 35 people waiting on line to vote.
Robert Cruz, a recent voter, is disappointed with the process of voting this site presented him with. He said he waited nearly an hour to be able to vote in a cafeteria lacking air ventilation.
“Waiting almost an hour can discourage people from voting,” he said, later emerging from the cafeteria sweating.
Cruz said he is lucky to be a Latino that was raised in the U.S. and speaks English. Otherwise he would not be able to get any assistance since there were little to no bilingual poll workers.
Cruz believes that the youth should not only be encouraged to vote for a president but also be informed about Congress and their permanent stand in government. Cruz said the youth “should know the importance of the power the congress holds and fight to vote for a different Congress.”
Patricia Smith, Cruz’s fiancée, agrees with Cruz and is very suspicious about Republicans, especially since she heard that Mitt Romney’s son bought the voting machine company. Both Cruz and Smith prefer the old system of voting, with the booth and levers versus the scanning method.
