The NYPD Bomb Squad has deemed a grenade found in the Edenwald section of The Bronx inert.

The incident occurred on Friday, Dec. 9, at around 4 p.m. at 3917 Wilder Avenue. A police spokesperson told Norwood News, “The device was deemed inert and removed to Rodman’s Neck for disposal.” The southern part of Rodman’s Neck is a piece of land and an NYPD designated shooting range, located in the borough, that juts out into Long Island Sound.

Asked if the grenade was a toy, as was found to be the case a few days earlier when, as reported, a grenade was also found in the Williamsbridge Oval park in the Norwood section of The Bronx, the spokesperson replied, “Unknown at this time.”

The resident, who declined to be identified, added, that the investigation wrapped up around 12.30 p.m.

An NYPD spokeswoman later told Norwood News, “The only thing that was updated here in reference to that is that the grenade has been deemed inert. It’s a toy.”

Asked if the toy had been placed in a bag, the spokeswoman added, “When we first got the notification, the grenade was discovered by [NYC] Park employees next to the entrance of the park but it doesn’t mention anything about a bag.”

A regular NYPD patrol vehicle was seen entering and parking in the same section of the park a bit later at around 13.53 p.m.
