Police said a 40-year-old man has died following a motor vehicle accident that took place in the East Bronx, west of Co-Op City.

An NYPD spokesperson said that on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at around 10.20 p.m., officers from the 47th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Baychester Avenue and New England Thruway.

“Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined a 2016 Dodge Journey operated by a 40-year-old male was traveling southbound on the New England Thruway when he collided with a 2018 Peter-built Tractor Trailer that was unoccupied from being involved in a previous collision,” the spokesperson said.

Police said EMS responded to the location and transferred the aided male to Jacobi Medical Center in Morris Park, where he was pronounced deceased. They said the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad.

The deceased was identified as Edwin Seixas, 40, of Norwalk, Connecticut.

In collision investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the location of such crashes.
