A 42-year-old man has died following a road accident in the vicinity of the Bronx River Parkway, police said.
According to the NYPD, on Saturday, Jan. 21, at around 9.06 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a single vehicle collision in the vicinity of Boston Road and Bronx River Parkway, located in the 49th Precinct.
“A preliminary investigation determined that a 42-year-old male was operating a 2010 Mazda 3 northbound on the Bronx River Parkway in the right lane when he lost control of his vehicle for unknown reasons,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “The vehicle veered right off the roadway into a grassy area.”
The spokesperson continued, “The vehicle struck a fence and came to a final rest after striking a tree. EMS responded and transported the aided operator to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where he was pronounced deceased. There are no other vehicles involved and no other injuries have been reported as a result of this collision.”
The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad, and the identification of the deceased is pending family notification, police said.
For collision investigations, NYPD handles the criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such incidents.
To reporter S.Moloney , I’m a bit confused reading your article. If the vehicle was traveling north how, according to the map illustration could the vehicle end up on the south side of the parkway ?
Hi Mr. Gorham,
Thanks for your comment, which I agree with, and I noticed that too. The red marker on the map is not the exact point of the crash. The NYPD said the collision took place in the vicinity of Boston Road and Bronx River Parkway. I therefore just searched Google Maps using these two cross streets to give a general indication of the general vicinity of the location of the incident, that’s all. Hope this clarifies.
Kind Regards,
Síle
Good afternoon S.Moloney,
