Digital Edition of the Norwood News Is Out

by David Cruz

After a pause for the Thanksgiving holiday, the Norwood News is once again out with its latest edition of the newspaper. The hard copy is available throughout 300 locations in the northwest Bronx, from diners, offices and within Montefiore Medical Center.

Our top story focuses on a rare shelter model that’ll pop up in University Heights, which is also primed for major redevelopment in a few years, according to a report. We hear from the folks at the Bowery Residents Committee, which plans on building a nine-story shelter at a barren piece of property.

We also tackle a serious issue devouring the borough–heroin. A special report on the topic can be found on page 5. Part two of the special report comes out next edition.

We also have your neighborhood favorites–Out & About focusing on weekend events throughout the Bronx, Inquiring Photographer which posed the question on NYPD tactics and Business Beat, spotlighting Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.’s attempt at winning over the beauty biz.

With the season of giving upon us, the Norwood News wants to thank all of our readers for contributing to making this great newspaper stand out. So stop by any neighborhood shop in the area, or sit back and read the Norwood News from the convenience of your computer.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
