On Friday, June 2, District Council 9 (DC9) Painters & Allied Trades will be conducting three formal apprentice recruitment drives throughout June. They will be conducted at the union’s training center in Long Island City, NY, where accepted applicants will complete their training. Applications will be distributed in person on a first-come, first-served basis over a 10-day period or until all applications are distributed, whichever comes first. The recruitment drives cover the New York City, Long Island, and Hudson Valley regions.

District Council 9 is a chapter of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, an organization of painters, decorators, wall coverers, drywall finishers, sign painters, metal polishers, bridge & structural steel painters, civil service painters, lead abatement workers, glaziers & architectural metal glassworkers, paint makers and allied trades. The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades is dedicated to securing and improving wages, benefits, and overall working conditions for its members.

The District Council 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York offers apprentices on-the-job and in-classroom training to ensure every apprentice is prepared to tackle the complex building market. DC9 apprenticeships offer New Yorkers a pathway to a stable career with family-sustaining wages and benefits.

DC9 business manager/secretary treasurer, Joseph Azzopardi, said, “District Council 9 takes great pride in our apprenticeship programs, which offer paid training, college credit, and access to excellent medical coverage. Many of our members come out of our apprenticeship programs and enjoy stable and rewarding careers.” He added, “We are excited to welcome the next class of union finishing trades workers through these recruitments.”
