Crotona: Two Dead, Three Injured following Two Separate Shooting Incidents

Five people were reported shot in two separate incidents in Crotona in late December, police said. Two have died.

 

As reported, an NYPD spokesperson said that on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, at approximately 4.05 a.m., at East Tremont Avenue and Marmion Avenue, officers were alerted to an incident regarding a man who had been shot.

 

Upon arrival at the scene, police observed a 26-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. EMS responded and transported the man to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

 

As reported, the man was later named as Carlos Gonzalez, 26, from the Foxhurst section of the South Bronx. The NYPD later released photos and a video of a person of interest in the case. On Jan. 5, Yerson Arzu, a 19-year-old man from the Mott Haven section of The Bronx, was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

 

Two days later, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 6.36 p.m. police said officers responded to a 911 call regarding a group of people who had been shot at East Tremont Avenue and Southern Boulevard.

 

Upon arrival, police discovered four people who had been shot. An NYPD spokesperson said the first victim, a 28-year-old man, was shot in the chest and was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police said the second victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot in the leg and transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. The third victim, a 46-year-old man, was shot in the chest and was also transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

 

The fourth victim was a 25-year-old man who was shot in the arm and also transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition. According to police, there are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
