The NYPD has made an arrest in the homicide investigation following the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Carlos Gonzalez in Crotona in late December, police said.
On Monday, Dec. 26, at around 4.05 a.m. at East Tremont Avenue and Marmion Avenue, police said they received a pick-up regarding a man who was shot in the area. “Police observed a 26-year-old male, unconscious and unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the male to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.” There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
The victim was later named as Gonzalez. He is from the Foxhurst section of the South Bronx.
The NYPD later released a photo and a video of the incident and had asked for the public’s assistance obtaining any useful information regarding the shooting.
On Jan. 5, an NYPD spokesperson said Yerson Arzu, a 19-year-old man from the Mott Haven section of The Bronx, was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
A person arrested and charged with a crime is deemed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.
On April 13, 2024, we reached out to the Bronx District Attorney’s office to ask for an update on Arzu’s status and were informed that his next scheduled appearance in court is for discovery compliance on April 24 as part of TRP (Trial Ready Part) with Judge Alvin Yearwood.
