Police are looking for the driver of a stolen car who crashed into four other vehicles on East Tremont Avenue in the Crotona section of the borough last month.

Police said the crash took place outside 721 East Tremont Avenue at 12:23 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, in the confines of the 48th Precinct.

A police spokesperson told Norwood News that a 62-year-old man reported that his Ford SUV had been stolen from its parked location outside East Tremont Discount store, located at 745 East Tremont Avenue.

Police said the still-unidentified car thief then drove westbound in the stolen SUV along East Tremont Avenue and made it as far as the next block before colliding with a Toyota SUV, driven by a 36-year-old woman. Police said the Toyota SUV then collided with a Dodge Truck, and struck the rear of a Nissan SUV and a Jeep Cherokee.

Police said the driver of the stolen car fled the scene on foot. The NYPD said they have made no arrests in the case and no description of the suspect was immediately available.

A woman who answered the phone at Major Sounds Electronics, located at 719 E. Tremont Avenue, was later asked by Norwood News if she had witnessed the crash. She replied, “No, but when I came in on Monday, I saw the debris and whatever was on the street.”

When informed the crash involved a stolen car, the woman reacted, saying, “Oh wow! It was a major crash? Wow! Oh my goodness!” She added, “If it happened around this area here in front, they should have the cameras to pick up that image.”

We asked the NYPD if the stolen car was being pursued by police at the time of the crash and were informed it was not.
